At Auckland Allergy Clinic an Allergy Assessment is done with the aid of The Comprehensive Online Allergy Screening Tool (COAST™). This helps us to be able to diagnose more difficult allergies using the probability logic technique of COAST™, a virtual allergist, using clickable algorithms to arrive at a probable diagnosis. After an appointment is made with clinic and an individualized Allergy Management Plan (including all appropriate investigations and treatment) is created based on International Evidence Based Allergy Practice. COAST is also very useful tool for excluding allergies.

At the initial consultation the consultant would have had a chance to view your COAST questionnaire before your arrival, and based on this and further questioning, a full examination, relevant to your suspected problem will be carried out. This is followed by the appropriate personalized investigations, including:

Molecular Allergy Component Testing: ISAC - "The new kid on the block"

Molecular allergy is the next frontier in allergy testing. The specific IgE test diagnose the source of the allergen, but is does not tell us how severe the allergy is likely to be or the risks involved. This depends on the allergen component involved. Each allergen source contains thousands of molecules, but only a few are responsible for most of the reactions. Allergen components can either be labile, and easily destroyed by the gut enzymes and tend to cause only local reactions or they can be stable and are resistant to digestions and are likely to cause systemic reactions (anaphylaxis). Component testing identifies these different types of allergens. Molecular allergy makes it possible to:

  • Assess the clinical risk for reaction
  • Explain symptoms due to cross-reactions
  • Identify the right patients for specific Immunotherapy

One of our aims at Auckland Allergy Clinic is to stop the Allergic March from progressing. One of the ways in which we are hoping to achieve this is to diagnose allergies early and by offering immunotherapy at an early stage of the disease, we hope to prevent further allergic sensitization from taking place.

Treatments offered at Auckland Allergy Clinic include:

  • Allergen Avoidance Education
    • Diets in conjunction with a dietician
